A passion for trauma-informed and evidenced based therapy

I am experienced in a variety of evidence-based interventions provided with warmth and empathy

Schema-Focused Therapy

Schemas and modes are long-term coping strategies that develop from unmet needs and have been vital for surviving difficulties in life. However, they can now also contribute to difficulties experienced currently. Schema therapy seeks to understand your unmet needs, current challenges, and pros and cons of current coping, in order to manage situations more effectively.

Eye-Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR)

When we have a distressing experience it can feel “stuck” and the theory is these experiences are stored differently in the brain so they feel like they are still happening with strong thoughts, images, emotions, and body sensations. EMDR helps process distressing memories so they feel more resolved i.e. reduced intensity and distress, and increased helpful outlook and beliefs about yourself and the world e.g. sense of safety

Dialectic-Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

A skills based therapy that recognises life is not black and white. Dialectics refers to 2 apparently opposing things being true at the same time e.g. you can be both ok as you are AND need to change. DBT covers various skills around both change and acceptance to help you cope effectively, including:

  • Distress Tolerance
  • Emotional Regulation
  • Mindfulness
  • Interpersonal Effectiveness

Mindfulness

It has been a buzz word and yet it can be very effective in managing many conditions including appreciating positive experiences as well as managing stressors. With mindfulness we learn to manage our attention to chosen topics, be in the moment, reduce judgment, and increase self-compassion.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

ACT recognises that human suffering is a “normal” human experience and seeks to support a meaningful life through psychological flexibility, managing discomfort, clarifying and living via your personal values, and adjusting our relationship with difficult thoughts and emotions.

Cognitive-Behaviour Therapy (CBT)

CBT looks at the interactions between our thoughts, feelings, and behaviour and how what we are currently doing can help or hinder us, as well as how to adjust these elements to help manage current challenges.

My Background

I grew up in Tasmania and spend most of my childhood in The Channel. I have lived all over Australia including NSW, WA, and NT (including a brief stint on a rural community outside Alice Springs and was given the nickname tjitji, meaning “little one”!)

I have worked as a psychologist since 2009, progressing from provisional to registrar and then clinical endorsement. I completed my study and early career in Western Australia. I gained experience across both public and private sectors, supporting individuals and groups across the lifespan, including those with complex mental health needs.
My work has spanned a range of settings, including:

  • Public hospital services (acute adult mental health, older adult, and subacute)
  • Specialist unit providing cognitive assessment, consultation, and support for people of all ages experiencing cognitive or neurological difficulties
  • Community mental health teams – providing individual therapy, case management, and running of skills and therapy groups such as CBT,  DBT, and mindfulness.
  • Private practices
  • While studying I worked with children and their families with autism spectrum disorder

I relocate back to Tasmania and The Channel in 2020 (just before the COVID lockdown!) and have worked in private practice since. I have a rescue half main coon and adore my niblings
